Every process mapped. Every cost known. Every pound of waste found.
Three weeks across the portfolio. We go into each company, map the core processes and what they cost with PinpointProof, and come back with a ranked plan for where to eliminate, consolidate and automate first, and a first valuation bridge.
The Diagnostic runs step 1 of the method across the portfolio and sizes steps 2 to 4 for each company.
The Diagnostic is where OperAlpha starts. Over three weeks we go into each portfolio company and, using PinpointProof, capture the core processes as they really run: every activity, who does it, which systems and controls it touches, and what it costs. Seen across the portfolio, that shows three things at once: where the waste sits, which functions are duplicated company by company, and which activities are ready to automate or agentify. The output is a ranked plan the operating partner can act on the following week, with the first cost-out candidates already sized.
- A costed process map for the core processes in every portfolio company, held in PinpointProof and left with each company
- A portfolio view of duplicated functions and consolidation candidates, with the shared-service case for each
- A ranked register of eliminate, consolidate and automate initiatives with EBITDA potential, deliverability and a recommended route (Sprint, Bench, internal, or leave alone)
- A first portfolio valuation bridge showing where the cost-out and automation value is expected to land
- A one-page summary per company for the board or the investment committee, and everything recorded in the Ledger
A fixed rhythm, agreed up front.
Go in and capture
Kick-off with the operating team, then structured mapping workshops in each company with the people who do the work. No event logs or system integration needed.
Cost and compare
Activities costed, waste and duplication identified, automation potential scored. Early findings shared so nothing in the final plan is a surprise.
Rank and present
Ranked plan, valuation bridge and per-company summaries presented to the operating partner and, if helpful, the investment committee.
Act on it
Most sponsors move straight into a Sprint on the top-ranked function, with the maps and the Ledger already in place.
Who it suits, and where another route serves better.
A good fit when
You have between 10 and 40 portfolio companies, a small operating team, and you want a costed, ranked view of where the operating cost is and how much of it repeats across the portfolio before you commit capacity. It also suits sponsors preparing a fundraise who want an evidenced view of operational alpha.
Consider another route when
You already hold current, costed process maps for the portfolio, or you are looking at a single company rather than a portfolio. In the first case a Sprint may be the better start; in the second we can run the Diagnostic for one company at a smaller scope, and we are happy to say so.
Priced so that an operating partner can approve it without committee. The Diagnostic fee is credited against the first Sprint booked within 60 days, and the PinpointProof maps stay with the companies.
How much of our time does it take?+
Roughly half a day from the operating team across the three weeks, and two to three hours from each portfolio company in mapping workshops. The people who do the work describe it; PinpointProof turns that into a costed map in days.
Can it run on part of the portfolio?+
Yes. Some sponsors start with the five or six companies with the most shared functions and extend later. The maps are comparable, so consolidation candidates show up as the rest of the portfolio is added.
What is PinpointProof?+
A process intelligence platform that captures how work actually happens through structured workshops and guided input, scores every activity for automation and AI potential, and keeps a living, auditable map. We use it in every Diagnostic and Sprint.
